McElroy, Deutsch, Mulvaney & Carpenter, LLP is a diverse
and talented Firm of committed professionals. Outstanding intellect,
good judgment, and absolute integrity are common qualities of
our lawyers. Unfailing attention to detail and constant application
of their best efforts are major reasons for the strong reputation
that the Firm has developed over the past twenty years. During
that time, the Firm has grown to over 130 attorneys, who practice
in four offices in three states. Regardless of their residence,
associate life at MDM&C is defined in the first measure
by one principal goal - the delivery of legal services of superior
quality and the highest level of professionalism.
When making recruitment decisions, the Firm takes into account
both academic and non-academic accomplishments. Leadership and
the potential for leadership are also viewed as important, and
judicial clerkships after law school graduation are generally
encouraged. Our summer associate program and judicial clerkships
are regularly major sources of recruitment of our first year
associate lawyer class.
The Firm invests a great deal of time and effort in the training
and development of its associates. Many senior lawyers act as
mentors to new lawyers at the Firm for the purpose of providing
assistance and encouragement as well as to provide an outlet
for discussion of any matter affecting the life of a new associate
at the Firm. Because the Firm considers itself responsible for
the professional growth of its associates, it has established
several seminar programs and a lecture series on a wide range
of topics pertinent to the areas of its practice. In addition,
each practice group within the Firm holds periodic meetings
that help associates develop legal knowledge and skills that
will benefit them throughout their careers. The Firm also encourages
lawyers to attend, at the Firm's expense, continuing legal education
programs conducted by local and national bar organizations.
Although new associates are assigned to a specific practice
group, they are given the opportunity to work in all of the
Firm's practice areas. Associates are also encouraged to participate
in the Firm's pro bono efforts. Recently, the Firm was recognized
by the Volunteer Lawyers for Justice as the recipient of the
Law Firm of the Year Award for its exemplary pro bono service.
Attorneys at the Firm are given hands-on responsibility as soon
as they demonstrate the appropriate level of ability, and a
rapid increase in individual attorney responsibilities regularly
occurs, with advancement from within the Firm being an important
element of the Firm's structure and success. New attorneys are
provided stimulating work and significant client contact. They
are not "stuck" in the library preparing initial drafts of documents
or preliminary legal research. The Firm annually engages in
a formal evaluation process of each of its associates to consider
the attorney's contributions to the Firm, to provide guidance
for professional development, and to discuss with the attorney
the opportunity for advancement.
How all of the attorneys of the Firm work together is of principal
importance to us. Teamwork is stressed. Internal competition
is not. Congeniality and collegiality are significant aspects
of the positive culture and constructive working environment
that the partnership has worked hard to develop and maintain.
Day-to-day lawyering does not take place within the context
of an elaborate hierarchy. Rather, work is performed with open
doors and on a first name basis, with ideas being freely exchanged
among lawyers of all levels of experience. This environment
creates bonds between our lawyers that transcend the services
they perform, resulting in a commitment by our lawyers to each
other, our clients, and the practice of law that is unmatched
by other firms.
McElroy, Deutsch, Mulvaney & Carpenter, LLP is an equal opportunity
employer. The firm makes its hiring decisions without discrimination
on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex,
age, disability, citizenship, marital status, sexual orientation,
or any other characteristic protected by law. In addition, the
firm prohibits and will not tolerate any such harassment or
discrimination.
The firm participates in the Justice Robert L. Clifford Fellowship
program, which was established in 1996 in honor of the former
New Jersey Supreme Court Justice to benefit minority students
at Seton Hall University School of Law. In addition, the Firm
participates in the Partners in Excellence program, whereby
it contributes toward full scholarships for six minority students
at the law school. In these ways, the Firm hopes to advance
its efforts to recruit and retain attorneys of diverse backgrounds.
